Molecular Biology and Therapeutic Targets of Primitive Tracheal Tumors: Focus on Tumors Derived by Salivary Glands and Squamous Cell Carcinoma
نویسندگان
چکیده
Primary tracheal tumors are rare, constituting approximately 0.1–0.4% of malignant diseases. Squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) and adenoid cystic (ACC) account for about two-thirds these tumors. Despite most primary cancers being eligible surgery and/or radiotherapy, unresectable, recurrent metastatic may require systemic treatments. Unfortunately, the poor response to available chemotherapy as well lack other real therapeutic alternatives affects quality life outcome patients suffering from more advanced disease. In this condition, target therapy against driver mutations could constitute an alternative chemotherapy, help in disease control. The past two decades have seen extraordinary progress developing novel treatment options, shifting paradigm several such lung cancer. improvement knowledge regarding genetic biological alterations, major tumors, has opened up new perspectives, suggesting possible role targeted therapies rare purpose review is outline state molecular biology, preliminary data on treatments main focusing salivary-gland-derived squamous carcinoma.

Quantification of Partial Volume Effects in Salivary Glands SPECT Images after Radiation Therapy of Head and Neck Tumors
Introduction: Radical radiation therapy of head and neck cancers may injure the salivary glands and reduce their function. Single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) images maybe used to evaluate function post-therapy. However, accurate quantification is hindered by the partial volume effects (PVEs). The present study involved the introduction of a PVEs quantif...
متن کاملMolecular mechanisms and therapeutic targets in pediatric brain tumors.
Brain tumors are among the leading causes of cancer-related deaths in children. Although surgery, aggressive radiation, and chemotherapy have improved outcomes, many patients still die of their disease. Moreover, those who survive often suffer devastating long-term side effects from the therapies. A greater understanding of the molecular underpinnings of these diseases will drive the developmen...
متن کاملPrimary tracheal adenocystic carcinoma and tracheal tumors during pregnancy
Cancer complicates approximately 0.1% of all pregnancies. Primary tracheal carcinoma is one of very rarely seen tumors and the rate of its being seen makes up approximately % 0.2 of all tumors of respiratory tract. The patient, 28 years old, who has 28-weeks-pregnant, was diagnosed with primary tracheal adenocystic carcinoma. Patient was made operation as thoracotomy and tracheal tumor was remo...
متن کاملSalivary Antioxidant Level in Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma
Background: Oral cancer is among the 10 most common cancers worldwide with an increasing global incidence. Compromised antioxidant defense system plays a role in occurrence of cancer. This study evaluated the salivary antioxidant level of oral cancer patients compared to a control group. Patients and Methods: This case-control study was conducted on 22 oral squamous cell carcinoma patients pre...
متن کاملMolecular biology of squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck: relevance and therapeutic implications.
More than 90% of all head and neck cancers are squamous cell carcinoma. Despite advances in the management of patients with this disease, the survival rate has not been significantly improved. Several mechanisms of carcinogenesis have been elucidated and molecular targeted agents seem to be promising therapeutic tools. Cetuximab, a monoclonal antibody inhibitor of the EGF receptor, improves sur...
